The Leonardo on Wheels—Science is a traveling science center designed to help students learn, and help teachers teach. All activities support Utah State Office of Education Math and Science Core Curriculum Standards for intermediate school students (grades 7-9). A visit from the outreach program is a far more substantive experience than the typical school assembly demonstration.
The science component of The Leonardo on Wheels—Science program will assist Utah's teachers and students in developing and expanding their skills, and learning the core objectives defined by the Utah State Office of Education.
Although The Leonardo on Wheels—Science and The Leonardo emphasize science and technology, they are also very committed to integrating art and science. This commitment to integration is illustrated via a My Leonardo Notebook activity, which the majority of the students who participate in the outreach program completes. The My Leonardo Notebook activities involve sketching, drawing and note taking, which facilitates observation and formulation of questions and hypotheses. Art facilitating science!
The Leonardo on Wheels—Science brings 12-15 interactive science exhibits to a school for three to five days. Each exhibit functions as a self-contained, mini experiment station and teaches a scientific principal related to the Utah Core Curriculum Standards. Not only that, they’re really fun!
In addition to the school day program, a Leonardo on Wheels—Science visit includes a Community Night. The event is a two-hour open house held one evening during the week of your scheduled Leonardo on Wheels—Science visit for parents, siblings, and members of the community to interact with the exhibits. Many schools utilize Community Nights to showcase what their students are learning in school.
