Volunteer

Wouldn’t apathy be easier? Maybe, but it's not nearly as much fun! Here are some reasons to become part of The Leonardo on Wheels—Science team as well as explanations of what you will do and how to get started!

This is your chance. Whether you'll be peering through a microscope for the first time, feeling the satisfaction and confidence that comes from answering a question using the scientific method, or sharing your curiosity about how things work, you are an ideal volunteer candidate. You may not know the answers to everyone's questions (who does?), but you do know that real learning lies in the question, not the answer.

Share your passion for science and discovery with others. Whether you have 20 years experience as an electrician or enjoy reading about the latest happenings in science and technology, we have a volunteer position for you!  Help us share the excitement of science with students across the entire state.

What Will I Do?

There are several ways that you can volunteer. Do you have an idea for an interactive science exhibit? Are you creative at "fix it" tasks and like to work with your hands? Volunteers are always needed to develop new interactive exhibits, and between visits to help maintain the ones we have.

Perhaps the most important and satisfying volunteer job is to be a guide while The Leonardo on Wheels-Science is visiting a school. The job of a guide is not to lecture or explain to students while they listen passively, but to lead students through the exhibits and help foster an inquisitive learning environment.  Don't feel unqualified because you think you won't know how to answer a question.  Sometimes the best answer to a "why" or "how" question is "What do you think?" or "I don't know, but let's see if we can figure it out!"
